I came across the work of Shawn Achor this summer and was really intrigued about his thoughts and views on programming our minds and thoughts towards "happiness" and away from "trauma and negativity". I appreciated his wit, confidence, and message about how we can move from the drab dreariness of negativity and pessimism to the light of laughter and optimism. I invite you to take 12 minutes to watch his Ted talk The Happy Secret to Better Work below. When I showed teachers the talk and messages, we had lots of energy and ideas about how we can apply his message individually but also with our students this school year. His five action items at the end of his clip are simple but impactful to start our brains towards looking for happiness and reducing trauma.
