November Principal’s Message

I know I keep saying this, but I can’t believe that another month has come and gone.  We were all a little worried when the snow started to fly early, but the last few weeks have been good enough for the construction crew to get a lot done on our future staff parking lot.  We had our annual award’s ceremony last week and I am so thankful for the continuous support we receive from our different organizations: Lions and Lioness, Parent Council, Westwind School Division, Gary & Sheila Bikman, Grant & Connie Nelson and Family, Fred Romeril and Family, Mr. Reinhard Brandley, and the Government of Alberta.  Many of last year’s grads left with a little bit more than when they woke up that morning.  A huge thank you to our parent council for putting on another amazing family Halloween dance last Friday.

We will be hosting our very first SV Girls’ Volleyball tournament, November 2 and 3rd.  Come and support our student-athletes as they are getting ready for the playoffs later on this month. Zones will be played at Lethbridge College from November 15-17. The schedule will come out after November 10th.  Please check the website for game times.

Basketball Season – with basketball season being around the corner, I have some simple requests.  First, I love seeing all families come and support our teams, but if you bring little ones it’s not the job of our volunteer supervisors to be the babysitters.  Please keep your little ones with you in the gymnasium.  Two, clean up after a game is not the most enjoyable thing to do for our supervisors, when all they want to do is go home.  Please do not bring any food or drinks into the gymnasium, except for water.  Three, cheer for all good plays and keep your thoughts about the referees or players that are not positive inside your head. They are doing the best they can. Lastly, please do not let your children bring basketballs with them to the game.  We will bring out a cart at half time which they can use if they are in stocking feet.

Construction up date.  The grade 1-6 classes will begin to move into their permanent classroom November 1st and 2nd. There will be no school for these students so that teachers and junior/senior high students can move items into the new classrooms and get ready for Monday November 5th. The attached feature picture was taken by Mr. Iwaasa’s drone.  As you can see the solar panels have been placed on top of the new gymnasium and will help in keeping our electrical costs down.  The facility looks amazing! The old gymnasium is still under construction and will be for the next couple of months.

Our grade 7-12 students will be moving into the school as soon as classrooms are cleaned, touched up and floor polished.

School website.  Once again, any information that you might need can be found on our school website, www.stirlingschool.ca Parent council will also be posting their events on the website.

Hot lunch order forms will be available on line at www.stirlingschool.ca or there will be a few available at the school office.  December’s hot lunch order form is due November 20th.
