June 2020 Principal’s Message

June 2020 Principal’s Message

Another month down, one more month to go. Our board has declared June 12th to be the last day of educational instruction for all grades and June 15-19 will be the last week for any students to hand in any missing assignments. Our report cards will be sent to you through email this reporting period as this will become the norm. Report cards will come out on June 19th. If for some reason you do not have the correct email address in our system please call the office between 8 am to 3 pm to update the correct information.

If you have not done so already please register your child(ren) for the next school year. Make sure that all contact information, emergency contacts and email information are correct as this is what we use to send you information.  As of right now, we do not know what the start of school looks like, but as soon as we do know, we will pass that on to you.

Central Office has approved our fee structure for the next school year. With the changes in the budget for Alberta school boards, the fees for our schools have increased. The Westwind School Division will be collecting a student fee for the upcoming school year of $50.00 per student in addition to our own Stirling School fees. With this change, as well as the changes within our school as a result of Covid19, we analyzed our budget and adjusted next year’s school supplies fees for grades 1-6 and our option fee for junior high. We are hopeful that this will help offset the cost knowing that this has been a very difficult year for many. Click here to see the fee breakdown.

“It takes a village to raise a child”, and so this year I hope that our whole village will come and congratulate our grade, 12 students, on their drive-by grad celebration. We have been approved and continue to follow AHS social distancing and the Alberta Covid19 Graduation Ceremony guidelines. The number of people who physically can be in attendance will be the grads, their parents and some staff members. Because this event is going to take place outside, Mother Nature needs to cooperate, but if she doesn’t, we have some backup dates.  As of today, we have scheduled our grad to be June 12th starting at 6 pm. More information will follow. The backup night is June 13, 26 and 27.

I can’t thank you enough for your continuous support through these unprecedented times. Our staff has worked extremely hard to make online learning the best for your child(ren). I hope that you have a fun-filled, safe and relaxing summer. Please have your children continue to read at least 20 minutes a day and play math type games to keep them engaged, this will make a difference in September.
