February 2020 Principal’s Message

February 2020 Principal’s Message

Can you believe that we are halfway through the 2019-2020 school year? Our high school students completed their final exams over the past week and a half and their report cards are coming or should be coming home on February 1st. Speaking of report cards, we will be phasing out paper report cards next year for grades 6-12 students. Marks are already available for your perusal online using the PowerSchool App. If you can’t remember your login information, please do not hesitate to contact our office. This is a great opportunity for you to learn to use the App this second semester to stay on top of your child(ren)’s academic progress.

We have a new team on the block. Our wrestling team has had great success in the first couple of months attending various competitions. We appreciate the support and enthusiasm of coaches, athletes, parents, community, and sponsors. Some student-athletes are looking forward to participating in rural which when successful will give our students an opportunity to represent us at provincials. Keep up the great work!

As stated by Adriana LaGrange, Minister of Education, “The Accountability Pillar Survey gives your school, your school authority and your provincial government important information about the quality of education your child is receiving. Results are used to find out what’s working and identify areas for improvement.”  Grade 4, 7, and 10 parents/guardians should have received a mailed survey package from Alberta Education. Included in the package will be the option to complete the survey online. The more of you that complete the survey for each of your children in grades 4, 7, and 10 the better and more accurate the results will be.

I want to thank all community members who come out continually to support our students in our school. Some of you come in to help in the classroom, others in the kitchen cooking with students or cooking for the students. Some coach teams, whether wrestling or basketball. Staff members who give of their time to supervise league games, tournaments or helping in the gym, kitchen or at our frozen yogurt machine or driving bus outside their normal school day. It takes many hands to give all students an opportunity to experience a full public education experience – in the classroom and out. Thank you.

As most of you know there will be no school for students from February 17-21.  Enjoy the time off and do something fun with your family, be safe.

If you still need to pay your resource fees, we accept E-transfers – ssfees@westwind.ab.ca, cash, debit. Thank you.

All visitors please check-in at the office. We want to keep all of our students safe and appreciate your assistance with this simple but important procedure.

All school news will be posted on our website www.stirlingschool.ca. Look for “Love and Logic” articles to help all parents under the parent tab.

Hot lunch order forms will be available online at stirlingschool.ca or there will be a few available at the school office. March’s hot lunch order form is due February 26th
