April 2019 Principal’s Message

April 2019 Principal’s Message

The birds are chirping, the snow is almost all gone, the days seem longer as it is staying light longer and the warmer weather will slowly become more constant.  We have had a super busy month with zones at the college, hosting the 1-A Boys basketball provincials, report cards and parent-teacher interviews/demonstration of learning.  The many hands who helped are too numerous to individually name, but please know how much we appreciated your support.

Congratulations to our grade 8 girls’ basketball team for winning the 2J South Zone banner.  Coach Chris Clawson admitted that he loved seeing these girls flourish this year and it was a well-deserved win for the whole team.  If winning one banner wasn’t enough for coach Clawson he along with Mason Barton, Chris Steed and Brady Adamson directed the varsity boys to victory, winning the South Zone 1-A championship banner.  The team then went on to win the Provincial 1-A championship.  Congratulations boys!  Mrs. Donna Branch, Mrs. Stephanie Michelson and our varsity girls won their 7th straight South Zone title, but just missed out on winning another provincial banner, losing out to Olds Koinonia in the final game.  We are so proud of all of our student-athletes that represented our Stirling School and community well at all events, all while continuing to balance their education, athletics and other activities.

Staffing and funding depends on the number of students we have registered.  Please help us out by registering your child if they will be attending Pre-School and/or Kindergarten in September.  Registration is all on line through the Westwind School Division Website.  Click “Tools” then “for parents”, on the left side click on “student registration”. The sooner you register your child for these two levels the sooner we can start planning for next school year.

Cell phones are so powerful.  Information about the damage that a cell phone notifications can have on student learning was shared at the parent-council meeting in March.  It is therefore that we want to try to have no cell phones come into the classroom starting April 1st.  Students will be encouraged to leave their cellphones at home, but if they can’t live without them, to leave them in their locked lockers during class time.  We are hoping that you can support our efforts to try to have students free from unnecessary interruptions during their valuable learning time.

School website.  Once again, any information that you might need can be found on our school website, Parent council will also be posting their events on the website.
