December 2021 Principal’s Message

It was an honour and privilege to have participated in the Village’s cenotaph dedication on Remembrance Day.  I feel a great sense of appreciation for the men and women who freed my family in Holland during World War II, so for me, Remembrance Day is one of emotion. I too was emotional to see so many of our students participating in the program.  A special thank you to Kaleigh Nelson and Ayme Harding for leading our elementary choir in the singing of “Oh Canada” and “In Flanders Field”.  Thank you to Ms. Mckee and her grade 5 students for reciting the poem “America's Answer” which is a poem in reply to the poem “In Flanders Field.” Thank you to Brody Nelson, Kirsten Rondeau, and Jayden Edwards for their speaking roles at the ceremony.  It was a special ceremony that would not have been made possible without the hard work and dedication from our Mayor Trevor Lewington.

Basketball season is in full swing.  With all the restrictions, most schools who are in our league have agreed to allow 2 parent/guardian tickets per player for away games.  This means in the smaller gyms if your child plays in the first game you will have to leave before the second game, so that those parents can now come and watch their child(ren).  When we host we will be able to fill up to ⅓ gym capacity.  If you bring your children they have to be masked and remain with you at all times.  We cannot have children running around, please.  Our staff volunteers are there to make it possible for the games to happen. They should not have to police you to wear your mask properly or to run after your children, so please help us out.  I appreciate my staff for giving their precious time away from their family to provide your child(ren) a chance to play.

As we approach the colder months please make sure to send your elementary children with appropriate outdoor clothing for recess and for after lunch.  Until the weather gets to -20 degrees Celsius students will be going outside to get some fresh air and to get their wiggles out of their system. Thank you.

Teachers and students are beginning to work on our 2021 Christmas concert.  This will be video-taped and a link will be sent to you closer to our break.  This will be a private link that will only be sent to parents/guardians.  You may share it with family members.  It will only be accessible for a couple of weeks.

Our parent-teacher conference was well attended and we are still learning more about the program.  I hope that you can forgive us for those of you whose meetings we failed to log into. If you still would like to discuss your child’s academic progress please do not hesitate to contact their teacher.  Spring conference might be one that will be a combination of in school and online, if health guidelines allow. Let’s keep our fingers crossed.

Our Award Ceremony, celebrating the students from the 2020-2021 school year will be available on our school website soon. Thank you to the many sponsors to make these scholarships possible.

Volunteers are welcome if you have the necessary paperwork handed in at the office (Vulnerable Sector Search and Criminal Record History). Both organizations ask you to have a letter from the school to start the process.  Please call the office and we will be happy to provide you with what you need.

Hot lunch order forms will be available online at and/or there will be a few available at the school office. January’s hot lunch order form is due December 16th

January Parent Council zoom meeting will be the last Thursday of most months, January  24th at 1:00 pm. If interested you could meet in our staffroom or join us on Zoom.

Please go through the updated COVID19 checklist every morning. If your child is sick or exhibits any of the symptoms, please DO NOT send them to school. As teachers, we have always provided students with work if they missed days of school or worked to catch them up when they return. This has not changed.
